Pure Pop Bliss

Just noticed that Cake by Trash Can Sinatras is highlighted on All Music Guide's front page as the album of the day. This came out when I was working in my hazy post-college graduation year at a record store in Minneapolis (Great American Music, which I don't think exists anymore), and I played this album a lot in the store. Got to see the band when I was living in Washington D.C., and unfortunately their lead singer was on a bit of a bender that night and was more focused on pissing off the crowd rather than getting into the music. The band took a break for awhile in the late 90s/early Oughts, but they returned to the scene in 2004 with a very tuneful comeback in Weightlifting (via iTunes and Amazon). Here are two rather horrendous videos from Cake -- "Obscurity Knocks" and "Only Tongue Can Tell". Best to just concentrate on the audio.
